Remembrance event Kutupalong

A series of creative events with Rohingya school kids and families in hospital to mark six years of living in exile.

On 25th August 2023, MSF meaningfully marked the 6th year anniversary of the Rohingya Influx with the Rohingya community and MSF staff. The purpose was to stand in solidarity with the community, and for staff to connect with the population they are serving.
Approximately 300 children were invited from the camp. The event began with the artists and weavers of the story-panel show-casing their work, and a powerful rendition of the story of two crows. All the children were invited to create drawing about the significance of that day and their hopes and wishes for the future.

Each school nominated one child to speak and share their story. Stories of loss during 2017 were shared, stories of hope for their future were also shared. Almost all children showed pride in their culture. Some small snacks were shared and the event concluded.
The significance of Rohingya story-tellers, artists, children, and advocates being experts and presenting in an NGO hospital, reversing their role as patients to experts and story-holders on a day like August 25 could not be more understated.
